Afronary is a community-powered ecosystem where Black journalists, creators, organizers, and everyday people decide which stories, voices, and conversations matter most.
Share stories. Organize knowledge. Build community memory. Shape our narrative together — without waiting for outside algorithms to decide what deserves attention.
Black journalism and Black-created content should not have to fight invisible feeds, buried links, and fragmented conversations just to reach the community it was made for.
Afronary is not just a place to post links. It is a way to make your work discoverable, discussable, searchable, and connected to the larger Black community conversation.
Your work connects to hashtags, conversations, and community interests — not just a one-time social post.
Every link, article, hashtag, and topic can become its own discussion forum and live chat space.
Afronary helps community members find useful stories and creators through shared interests and collective activity.
Important resources, links, and conversations become searchable knowledge instead of disappearing into a feed.
Creators, local journalists, educators, and organizers can be found by the value of what they share.
Track what people are saving, discussing, questioning, and organizing around in real time.
Afronary is for people creating, reporting, explaining, teaching, organizing, and preserving what matters to the African American community.
A place where the stories we save, the voices we trust, the conversations we start, and the resources we share become part of a living, searchable, community-shaped knowledge base.
A simple flow designed to help Black-created work move from link, to discussion, to shared knowledge, to community impact.
Post a story, article, video, podcast, resource, or page that matters.
Connect it to hashtags so people can find it by topic and interest.
Turn links and hashtags into forums, comments, and live chat rooms.
Let votes, comments, saves, and activity surface what the community values.
Build a searchable archive of Black stories, resources, and conversations.
Kujichagulia means self-determination: the power to define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves, and speak for ourselves. Afronary brings that principle into digital community life.
This is infrastructure for Black digital self-determination — a place where we collectively shape our own narrative.
Bring your journalism, your commentary, your videos, your resources, your local stories, and your community knowledge into the Afronary Ecosphere.
Donald Trump has been on an intense, nearly continuous two-week rally schedule that party allies and reporters say has featured large crowds and nonstop travel.[28703] That relentless pace finally seemed to catch up with him as he publicly complained about “wasting time” on the road and showed signs of frustration with campaign logistics.[28703] At the same time, Trump faced sharp public pushback in other venues where he snapped at reporters over tough questions, underscoring growing tensions between him and the press.[28694][28703]
Meanwhile inside the White House communications operation, critics say messaging has frayed as staff struggle to control narratives and respond to difficult headlines.[28699] Those internal messaging struggles and visible moments of anger have fed a broader political narrative that questions the campaign’s discipline and ability to manage crises on multiple fronts.[28699][28694][28703]
Further signs of turmoil at the national level include reports that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth appeared despondent at a White House event while rumors circulated that Pentagon insiders were preparing to break with him.[28690] Such reports add to perceptions of instability among senior officials and raise questions about cohesion in key policy areas as political drama plays out publicly.[28690][28699]
Outside Washington, separate tragedies and controversies are prompting swift accountability moves at the local level, as two Mississippi police officials resigned after the fatal shooting of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley and the officer involved later resigned following release of body-camera footage, according to attorneys and family calls for federal investigation.[28700][28697] The family’s demand for a federal probe highlights ongoing community distrust of local policing and concern about whether local systems can deliver justice.[28700][28697]
High-profile business scrutiny also surfaced as reports emerged that Magic Johnson’s business ties to Mark Walter were under review amid reports that a firm partly owned by Johnson financed ventures linked to Walter while Walter faces federal probes and potential major sports-team sales.[28698] That item illustrates how financial connections between celebrities and billionaire owners can draw scrutiny when federal investigations touch corporate deals and sports franchises.[28698]
Cultural conversations continued too, with calls to revive the Chappelle Show’s satirical “racial draft” as a way to spark community debate without defaulting to another committee or task force.[28692] And in sports, the New Orleans Pelicans confront an early test as they try to avoid an 0-3 start against Denver while also coping with injuries that weaken their frontcourt.[28702]
The week’s news mixes campaign fatigue, media confrontations, administration messaging problems, local accountability for police violence, corporate scrutiny, and cultural debates into a single national mood of frayed institutions and intensifying scrutiny of leaders at every level.[28703][28694][28699][28700][28697][28698][28692][28702]

A straight forward algorithm determines what comes to the top
The algorithm for what you see is the same for all users and entries.
The math that positions the articles is as follows:
(likes - dislikes) - (TIMESTAMPDIFF(MINUTE, s.date_added, NOW()) / 60) + number_of_distinct_comment_users
(likes - dislikes)
This captures how positively the community feels about the story:
This is the baseline of how users rate the content.
- (TIMESTAMPDIFF(MINUTE, s.date_added, NOW()) / 60)
This portion subtracts points as the story gets older:
Purpose: This keeps newer stories competitive. Older stories gradually drop unless they are constantly receiving likes, dislikes, or comments.
+ number_of_distinct_comment_users
This adds points based on how many unique people have commented on the story:
It rewards breadth of engagement, not spam or one person talking a lot.
Purpose: This helps surface stories that spark real discussion.
Afronary aims to reflect the pulse of the community and not the bias of its developers.
A system of hash tags can be used to categorize and find local resources. eg Search hashtags for #soulfood #southchicago
A great deal of work remains to be done. But I think this is a pretty good start.
